If we are friends in real life or on Facebook (alternate real-life), you know that I
I like to change my hair because it's fun, and that's the bottom line. It's an easy change to make that can yield instant, dramatic results. I get bored fairly quickly and a new hair cut or color can give me new ways to play with my hair. Experimenting with our looks is our right. Hair grows back. Makeup can be washed off. Diamonds are forever.
I thought it might be fun to show you the scope of hairstyles I've sported over the past few years. This has been happening since I was in 2nd grade. When I was in 2nd grade I got my hair cut very short, which was pretty atypical for 8 year old girls at the time, and I guess it still is. From that point on it was short, permed, banged, all-one-length, blonde, pixied, long past my shoulders... I've done it all. Well, almost! My Nana used to call me "Maggie of the Many Hairstyles."
I'll try to get these pictures in chronological order, for your convenience. I'm wondering if, to a guy, my hair in all of these pictures will look the same. Girls will get it, though. As far as I'm concerned, a 1" trim counts as a new style.
Spring 2006 ~ Just a girl, hanging out at Beau Monde with her boyfriend. No kids. No clue.
October 2008 ~ Short hair don't care.
April 2009 ~ My glacial mountains are real and they're spectacular. Odd half-grown out length.
April 2010 ~ Almost 9 months pregnant. No clue what I'm doing with my hair.
Can I get a plate of spaghetti? I need to pee.
September 2010 ~ I'm wearing my hair in a ponytail, dammit.
November 2010 ~ I didn't get my hair cut for the first year or so after
ER was born as a "cost-saving" measure. I will never do that again.
It might have saved us some money, but it definitely cost me a portion of my sanity.
March 2012 ~ I had to drink a lot to convince myself that the bangs were a good idea.
It was fun, but they were very limiting. I wanted to look like Carrie Brownstein.
April 2012 ~ Iiii'll just go ahead and sweep those bangs off to the side...
ER was so annoyed with me that day. She said wearing a shirt to the zoo with parrots on it
was akin to wearing an Owl City t-shirt to an Owl City concert.
Up until this point, you're probably thinking, "WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?" I kind of am too. I guess thinking of all the hair changes over the course of my 31 {stellar} years is a lot more dramatic than you looking at a few pictures that span only 1/5 of my life. But, hold on, here's where stuff gets crazy. Watch out.
In October 2012, I got a perm. I hadn't had a perm since I was in 4th grade. Do the math. I'll wait. I was 10. My mom got a perm a few years ago and it looks really, really cute. I was ready to commit to growing my hair out long (it hasn't been anywhere near my shoulders since high school), and I concluded that a perm was the perfect thing to keep me distracted. It would keep my mind off of how slow it was growing, and would hopefully, prevent me from making a rash decision to chop it all off, which I have been known to do.
October 2013 ~ Last shot before my perm. Having a LivingSocial voucher helped
me make the decision to "go for it."
October 2013 ~ What if I don't like this? Is it permanent?
December 2013 ~ Rocking the curls and a full-foiling of highlights
that I got shortly before this picture.
Ready for something really crazy? Take a look at this:
I know!!
I still have the perm but am letting it grow out. I won't be getting another one right now. It did what it was intended to do, and the result is pretty long hair!
So what about you? Do you like changing your hair? Keeping it the same? Do you have a standing appointment at the salon every week for a wash? Does anyone over 80 read this blog?

I love the December 2013 and I LOVE the 3/23/13 pic - you look like a model!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith. I'll be sure to let you know when I make it big in Milan. Tennessee.
