I Made Something Else! Not Kidding.

'Tis April Fools Day!  Huzzah!  Not sure what the greeting for that is: "A Blessed April Fools Day to you and yours?"  "May all of your April Fools wishes come true?"  "May you know the merriment and revelry that is April Fools Day the whole year through?"

You know, in France, this day is marked by Le Poisson d'Avril.  It's all fun and games until shit gets real and someone ends up with a day-old monk fish slapped on their brand new Dior coat.  But up until that point, it's hilarious.

I'm not sure if that nonsense with the monk fish and the Dior actually happens, but it sounds plausible, n'est ce pas?

Even though yesterday was Easter, I got my craft on in the morning.  My creativity doesn't take holidays, people, and neither does my impulsivity.  I had had something I wanted to work with laying in my "office" for a while, I saw the opportunity & had the inspiration to work with it, and I hopped on it.  Get it?  "Hopped?"  Just a little bunny humor there for you.

So, here's what I was working with:

There is an awesome vintage store not too far from where I live called freshvintage.  It's run by Colleen and her husband Chris and the whole thing is just lovely.  Colleen is hilarious, the two of them pick up some really crazy kitsch (books on how to manage Syphillis, anyone?), and their storefront is fab.  They have a little spot at a local orchard, so you can get your hayride/apple cider donut/kids want to pet the goats and vintage shopping needs fulfilled in one spot.  Totally convenient.

I got this {apparently} never-been-used Snow White (Delicious) flour bag out of the $2 bin at freshvintage about a month ago.  I liked it because ER is into the Princesses, and, I mean...look at it.  I love that it has text with an identifying location on it, and just look at Snow White.  Girl's been working so hard she's starting to cry blood.  Or is that her rouge?  Can't be sure.

The flour bag had been sitting, waiting for its true destiny to be fulfilled quite patiently.  Bless its heart.

Step 1: Get a rejected picture frame.  If you're like me, you have about 25 empty frames waiting to be deployed to the front lines at any given moment.

Step 2: Find fabric in your stash that matches the piece you wish to display.

Step 3: Find fabric with SNOWFLAKES in your stash that you love, but can't think of how to use, and add that into the mix.

Step 4: Cut your fabric into strips.

Step 5: Wrap your fabric strips tightly around the frame (I didn't use any adhesive, save for the red polka-dot tie you'll see in the next set of pics).

Step 6: Fill in with coordinating fabrics if need be.

Step 7: Fasten the whole shebang with a fabric tie.

Step 8: Take a filtered picture of your finished project with Instagram to make it look really cool.

Step 9: Display your finished project on your wall as a constant reminder of your resourcefulness and awesome creativity.

I am SO thrilled with the way this turned out.  Like so many projects I have started, I didn't have any idea of what I wanted the finished product to look like.  For me, making something is more about the process.

And, hey, not to shabby for a $2 find, eh?

    1. Thanks, Keith! Easter was nice..it was very dreary here though. Bright sunshine today and gale-force winds. Typical.

  2. Thanks so much for mentioning freshvintage. I love the frame - I'm so glad to see that flour bag finally on display. (And not in the bottom of a pile in my garage!)

  3. Remember on our trip to France in HS that happened to be over April Fools and we stuck a paper fish on the back of our tour guide on the bus? Fun times.
