A Date For Fashion & Food.

Dada and I do a fairly good job of getting out on our own for dinner once in a while.  This past weekend, we got to use our Christmas gift from Sterling and Les Paul, which was a gift card to FENZ in Lancaster and *free* childcare.  Gotta love free.

Because I'm going to link up to my girl Rebecca's "What She Wears!" link-up tomorrow, all about date night fashion, I'll go into details about what I wore out on Saturday night!

I found the most fabulous quote the other day when captioning this priceless picture of ER...

"Fashion fades, style is eternal."  -Yves Saint-Laurent

I think that's one of the best quotes I've ever read.  Not only is it easy to memorize, but for me, it's totally true.  I participated in a Twitter party the other night and we were talking about home decor & design.  I said that good design, to me, is anything that makes me feel good and balanced on the inside. Same goes for wearable style & fashion.  If I feel good and "even" in it, I don't want any more than that.  I do my own thing, as is evidenced by my date night get-up, and it looks like ER has the confidence to follow in her Mama's footsteps :)

So, quick little pre-story here: I fell walking out the front door of my aunt's house, twisted my ankle, and was down for a good 5 minutes.  I knew I wasn't hurt too badly when I started cracking up thinking about how awesome I must have looked, walking out a door I've walked out a hundred times before, and landing on ma butt.  I was smiling through the discomfort in this picture, keeping all of my weight off of my left foot, but I knew a nice, big glass of wine was waiting for me at FENZ, so I managed to press on.

I am into an eclectic, arty, comfy, hippie/hipster thing these days.

Infinity Scarf: Gap (Spring 2013)
Bag: Gap (Spring 2013)
Tencel Denim Dress {I like wearing it as a tunic}: Sonoma @ Kohl's (Spring 2013)
Leggings: Mossimo Supply Co. @ Target
Sandals: Papillio Gizeh
Jewelry: Alex & Ani bangles
All cosmetics by Origins, including Rain and Shine Liptint in Sienna

OK, so that was kind of fun.  Maybe I'll present more of my fantastical adventures in attire more often!

Our meal at FENZ was excellent!  We began with a cheese board (Dada and I do love a good cheese board)...
The little cube on the right is quince paste, and the thing behind it is chocolate-fig loaf.
Love those little extras!

For dinner, I had an excellent pappardelle bolognese.
Dada had an open-faced tenderloin tip sandwich which was delicious, too!

Dessert?  Oh, OK.

Dada had the Chocolate "Three Way:" a truffle, torte & mousse!

I had the Lemon Meringue Tart, something I never would have ordered
10 years ago.  Isn't it funny how our tastes change as we get older?
The shortbread crust on this little number was delicious!

I also enjoyed the FENZtini from the dessert menu--Patron cafe, butterscotch and cream.
It was cold and very delicious!  I'm on a mission for a friend to find out what exactly the
butterscotch ingredient was.  She's going to recreate it!

After dinner, we weren't ready to go home yet so we went to the mall.  I thought it would be good to walk around on my bum foot for a while to keep the blood flowing.  Five minutes after we got there, I was looking for wheelchair rentals, so it wasn't an overly successful trip.  I managed to make it through the Gap and sans wheels, but we weren't there for very long before I was ready to go.  I had been wishing for a sweet hat since it was Derby Day and I couldn't leave the mall before I tried one on.

This hat was so fabulous and big, I'm seriously thinking about including it in my beachwear for this summer.  Cheers, dahhlings!

    1. It totally was, Adrienne! I think both the pasta and the sausage were homemade. It would be hard to go back and not order that again! Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks, Meagan! I, too, hear the call of CHEESE :) It's kind of a tradition for my husband and me when we go out--we enjoyed a cheese plate on our very first date! Definitely not something you can really savor with a 3-year old at the table!
